I’m from a small ex-mining town called Mansfield. I’ve lived here my whole life - over 40 years now.

In 2006, I started a website design and marketing company with one simple goal: help small and medium businesses get online, get customers, and actually stand a chance against the big players.

And honestly?
It’s hard. Brutally hard.

1. It’s hard for startups.
2. It’s hard for family-run and independent businesses.
3. It’s hard for the shops that put their heart into what they do, only to be drowned out by companies that can throw thousands of pounds at ads without blinking.

It’s hard for us too - constantly trying to invent low-cost, creative ways to help local businesses be seen, heard, and chosen.

Then apps came along.

Big retailers got their own apps.

Third-party platforms popped up everywhere, mainly for takeaways and convenience stores.

And while they solved some problems, they quietly created a bigger one.

1. What about the independent clothes shop?
2. What about the little shoe shop down the road?
3. What about the charity shop at the end of the high street?

They were left out. Again.

And that’s exactly the idea for TownCentre.app came from.

I’ll be honest - the idea feels almost too simple. I’ve questioned myself more times than I can count. But every time I step back, I keep landing on the same uncomfortable truths:

1. You’re not going to buy a belt or dry shampoo from an app with “Eat” in the name
2. Most existing apps do nothing for local economies
3. They charge eye-watering fees to shops and users
4. They treat riders and drivers unfairly
5. They obsess over making money, not delivering a genuinely good service

So instead of moaning about it, I decided to build something better.

Right now, I’m doing this solo. I’m manually adding every bricks-and-mortar shop in the Mansfield town centre. One by one. Then I’m contacting each business personally and giving them access to their free TownCentre.app account.

No catches. No commissions lurking later. No rug pull.
